Gran Turismo 7 PlayStation State of Play recap

Here’s what was shown and talked about during Wednesday’s State of Play, which focused on Gran Turismo 7

Sony presented a PlayStation State of Play Wednesday, focusing on upcoming racing game Gran Turismo 7.

Gran Turismo 7 is slated to release on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 March 4, 2022. According to the PlayStation Store listing, the game will feature the following: “With over 420 cars available at Brand Central and the Used Car Dealership from day one, Gran Turismo 7 recreates the look and feel of classic motors and bleeding-edge supercars alike in unparalleled detail. Each car handles differently and feels unique as you navigate over 90 track routes in dynamic weather conditions, including classic courses from GT history.”

The livestream featured details on the game, including more information on the campaign mode, vehicles, tracks and changes to the game from the previous iteration in the series.

Perhaps the biggest change is an even bigger focus on car culture. Everything in the game from Brand Central, where you’ll purchase cars, to the campaign and the menus seems to have been built around the idea of teaching the player to appreciate car culture.

The livestream also detailed new lighting, reflections and visual upgrades for the PlayStation 5 version of the game. Weather, clouds and the sun will be based on the real-life science of how skies and weather act in different parts of the world. The night sky is also insanely detailed and will change based on real-life factors as well.

Many more details and features were shared including updates to Replay Mode, car mechanics, use of adaptive triggers and other DualSense controller features, online multiplayer, tuning and car customization, an “evolved” livery editor, updates to Scapes photo mode, 3D audio (PS5) and a new Music Replay mode where camera cuts are generated based on dynamic changes in the music that’s playing.
